It's been seven years since I launched Canned Gamers.
In the time since then, I've launched many more websites, tons of apps, and written over 48,000 tweets. I just checked the stats, and despite me not updating Smallcut anymore, it still gets a decent number of views every single day. Not bad for a heavily neglected seven-year-old website. A year ago, I was proud to say that in under six years, I had increased from 10 twitter followers to 1583. Since then, however, my account's growth has accelerated, allowing me to go from 1583 followers a year ago to 2644 followers today. This wouldn't have been possible without the creation of Canned Gamers back in 2012, which gave me some of the knowledge necessary for me to build some of my other, more popular projects, as well as an initial reason for people to follow my Twitter account. For those of you who are reading this, I'd just like to say thank you for continuing to support my projects and me through the years, I couldn't have done it without you. See you all next year, for the yearly New Year's post! You can follow me on Twitter @JustinAlexP

I’m on vacation, writing this post on my phone using Weebly’s slightly questionable “mobile” site. 2018 was... eventful. I did release Impeached, which can be downloaded on the App Store here. I mentioned another app that was in its planning stages last year, but I honestly can’t remember what it was. I also released Tube Player, a (pretty bad) YouTube client, on GitHub and Zooted on the App Store. For the first time, I also released some jailbreak tweaks (including one that I co-developed with AppleBetas!), which are available on the Dynastic Repo. Hopefully more of those will be coming soon! The recipe manager is still on hold, as is Starfighter. Wonder when those’ll come out. More apps are planned, and hopefully some of them will come out in 2019! Of course, not everything was great this year. As you can tell from my Awards of 2018, I managed to take a number of Ls this year. The only one that matters here, though, is that in 2018, I was rejected from the University of Waterloo for both Software Engineering and Computer Science. Well, technically, I got an “alternate offer” from CS to geomatics (and they had the audacity to “offer” me a scholarship for geomatics), but that’s essentially a rejection. Hopefully, in time, I’ll be able to show them what a huge mistake rejecting me was. Their decision kind of messed up my plans, so instead, I ended up at the University of Ottawa, where I’ll probably be until I graduate in 2023 (assuming everything goes to plan this time). As usual, I only post here like twice a year (if I remember), so follow me on Twitter @JustinAlexP for more frequent updates. See you guys in February (if I manage to remember again), Have a magnificent 2019! Today is February 10th, 2018.
Six years ago, I published a games website with a stupid name. It was fun to build at the time, and fun for my friends and I to use to play games on our school's computers (we were in 6th grade when it came out), but I now realize how much more important it was. Smallcut's creation is indirectly responsible for a lot of the success my other projects have, despite the fact that most of the people who use those other projects have never heard of Smallcut. About a year after Smallcut was created, I opened a Twitter account, @SmallcutPowers in order to promote it and the other Smallcut Powers websites. That account allowed me to better learn about news in the tech community and about jailbreaking, and ended up causing me to build NoJailbreakApps. It also allowed me to learn about the GBA4iOS beta testing program, which I applied for and got in to. Over the years, my account has grown from about 10 followers in mid 2013 to 1583 followers today. Thanks to my account, people are able to hear about the things I do, and are able to check them out. My projects are much more successful now than they were before my Twitter account existed, and all of this is thanks to Smallcut. See you guys next year! By the way, my current Twitter account is @JustinAlexP. If you're interested in my various projects, here's a link to my most recent release, a president simulator game called Impeached, and here's a link to my current main website. Also, I know this blog post doesn't read very well and kinda sounds wonky, but I'm really tired and I have some other stuff I have to do, so I wasn't able to make it sound proper. 1:58 AM on January 1st, 2018.
This post will probably be labelled as being released on December 31st, 2017, but that's just because Weebly has my timezone wrong. Whatever. My sleep and health is more important than the date label on a blog post. 2017 has been another (sort of) successful year. I released three more apps, App Installer, Speed Math and Portail des Élèves. App Installer is on GitHub while the other two are on the App Store. Paperboy Assistant and AutoTutor also got updates this year. In addition to all of that, I began working on Impeached, a president simulator game for iOS, to be released in 2018. My tech class recipe manager app has to be scrapped and restarted, and is now on hold, behind all my other projects. Starfighter is also on hold, though I'd like to finish that one at some point. In 2017, I learned a lot about iOS development and programming in general, and I learned skills that will allow me to improve my apps, and build much better ones in the future. In terms of name changes, my Instagram name changed to @justinfromtwitter and my SoundCloud name changed to JP (jponthetrack). My other usernames are all the same, in case you try to find me (main one is @JustinAlexP on Twitter). As usual, I'm probably forgetting some interesting things that happened this year, and you should definitely check out my Twitter for more. In 2018, I hope to release Impeached as well as another yet-to-be announced game (that will release if Apple actually accepts it on the App Store), and of course, updates to all of my apps. Also in 2018, I will graduate from high school, and begin university. If you count the years back, you can see that I started this website when I was in grade 6 (2012). It's really been quite a while now. I hope to attend University of Waterloo in the fall for their Software Engineering program, but it's next to impossible to get in, so I suppose I'll update about that in a year from now. As I say every year, I'll continue working on all my projects, but consistent updates are only found on my Twitter, so you should really follow me there. For those of you that still don't use Twitter after all these years, I'll keep doing my yearly update, and I'll try to actually remember to post on February 10th for Smallcut's 6th birthday. See you guys in February (if I remember this time), Have a fantastic 2018! This is getting ridiculous... I missed Smallcut's birthday by over 3 months.
On February 10th, 2017, Canned Gamers marked its 5th birthday. Wait, you say, I thought it was Smallcut's birthday! Well, you're right, but I am too. Smallcut was not always called Smallcut. On February 10th, 2012, I created a games website called Canned Gamers. I am really bad at making names, apparently. At some point after that, I changed the name to Blast Gamers. Another name that didn't make any sense. Then, later, I wanted to shorten the name, so I came up with Smallcut. This one actually makes a little sense. It was a play on the name Miniclip, a much larger games website. Still a horrible name in retrospect. Smallcut evolved into a website that did not simply host games, but a whole bunch of other things too. Later on, I created Smallcut Powers to organize all my creations under one name (a horrible name). I then created Kiayeorg (yay, more bad names) to reorganize the mess that was Smallcut Powers. I kept all the better things, like Smallcut, under the Kiayeorg name, and left the garbage with Smallcut Powers. This year, I am planning to change the name Kiayeorg to something less nonsensical. Hopefully that goes through. Anyway, happy very belated birthday to Smallcut, and see you guys next year! PS: I am much more active on Twitter than on here, and my username is @JustinAlexP. I also have two apps on the App Store, and have many other creations hosted on my website. See you guys on New Year's Day 2018 (hopefully)! 3:02 AM EST on January 1st, 2017. Seems like Weebly is based on the West Coast or something, since it has an offset of 3 hours from my time. Ah well, I wasn't about to post my New Year post on "December 31st" again😂
Anyway, this year, I did make some advancements in app development. I released two iOS apps, AutoTutor and Paperboy Assistant, I submitted an update to AutoTutor (submitted on December 23rd, 2016, but hasn't been approved since iTunes shut down for the holidays and stuff). An update for Paperboy Assistant is also in the works, and should be completed relatively soon. The app I developed for tech class will get on the App Store at some point, but I'm working on a companion Apple Watch app. However, it's currently on hold because of school and Paperboy Assistant. The game I'm working on (Starfighter) is also on hold because of school and PA. My iOS development skills have improved a lot over the last year, and I'm hoping they continue to improve. A few other things happened during 2016. I changed my Twitter handle to @JustinAlexP and I created a new SoundCloud profile under the name Blesserman. I was selected to beta test Riley Testut's Delta, a multi-emulator for iOS. There were probably other noteworthy things, but it is 3AM and I'm very tired, so I can't remember. You should check my Twitter for more details. I'm also going to update you guys on the statuses of all the projects I've mentioned since my first New Year post in 2013. 2013 None 2014 "Remember when we were all hyped about an app? It is currently being developed, but there's a couple bugs to get rid of before release. We hope you like it." That app was Gnop, a game. It has since been cancelled. It was horribly written, and used UIKit (UIKit is great and powerful, but not for games). It just barely worked until iOS 8 came out, and totally broke it. However, it did get me introduced to Objective-C, the language I use to write iOS apps, so it was definitely not a waste of time, it was a learning experience. 2015 "B-OGOnet v8 was canceled" I don't think I have to explain much, B-OGOnet v8 was cancelled, and I am not planning to build any new web browsers in the future. However, if you're interested in downloading B-OGOnet v7.22 (for fun or for the funky features it offers), you may do so here. You can also download the original version on this website under Downloads, then B-OGOnet. I know I have all the older versions somewhere, I'll upload them somewhere at some point, but there just isn't much demand for them. 2016 "I still have 2 apps in development..." Those apps were AutoTutor and Starfighter. AutoTutor has been released on the App Store (learn more about it here), while Starfighter is on hold because of school and other projects. This year, on February 10th, 2017, Smallcut/Blast Gamers/Canned Gamers turns 5 years old. I'll try not to miss the birthday post this year😂 Also, while I was looking through all the old posts, I saw that I typically said that the year had been bad. I said that 2012 had been horrible, then that 2013 started great and ended badly. I didn't say much about 2014 or 2015, but I remember 2014 starting off continuing the bad from 2013 and 2015 ending quite badly. I'll just assume that the end of 2014 and the beginning of 2015 were good. But I don't think any of these years can match how bad 2016 was. I really hope 2017 is a great year for everyone. I'm going to continue working on my projects, and I'll keep you guys updated on Twitter, so you really should follow me there. However, I'll keep doing these yearly posts (and the birthday posts) for those of you that refuse to use Twitter. See you guys in February (if I remember), Have a happy 2017! Canned Gamers was created on February 10th, 2012. February 10th, 2016 marked its 4th birthday. Canned Gamers eventually evolved into Blast Gamers, and then Smallcut. Then, there were so many things that I owned that I decided to regroup them all together, as Smallcut Powers. Smallcut Powers was rebooted in 2014 as KIAYEorg, which is now stylized as Kiayeorg.
Cool stuff that happened lately: Launched an iOS app, something we've been trying to do for a while now! It's called AutoTutor, check it out! Here's a link: http://www.kiaye.org/getAutoTutor That's about it! The game is still in development, it's on hold because of school. See you guys next year! I'll try not to miss it this time. 12:05 AM of January 1st, 2016. Yeahhhh, I wasn't about to miss this twice in a row😂
Anyway, I still have 2 apps in development, just wait, just wait! One's on hold because of school, and the other is for school, so you'll probably see that one first. This year will celebrate Canned Gamers/Blast Gamers/Smallcut/Smallcut Powers/KIAYEorg's 5th birthday, I'll try not to miss it this year😂 Have a great year! Happy 2016! Edit: I'm not sure why it's marking as December 31st, 2015, but it shows as January 1st, 2016 in the editor. It's 2016 here, so something's up with Weebly. I dunno. Canned Gamers/Blast Gamers/Smallcut's birthday was February 10th, and I missed it. Smallcut is now 3 years old. Happy birthday, Smallcut! Hopefully, the Kingdom Dev Team will be able to build something cool as a replacement for Smallcut at some point :)
I'm so sorry I missed the traditional New Years' post, my parents had taken my stuff away during that time (Dec 25, 2014 - Jan 3, 2015), and my sister wouldn't let me use her iPad. Now, the app I was developing got rekt by iOS 8, though it still works on iOS 7 and below. I have no idea what's up. As I cannot currently fix it, I have let it go off to the side for a while while I do other stuff. I may build another app (game). B-OGOnet v8 was canceled, as I'm not exactly the best OS X app developer. I also moved my music over to SoundCloud, under a new name, Qwntm. Here's a link: https://soundcloud.com/qwntmmusic.
Smallcut's birthday is coming up in February (10th), and I'll try not to miss that one. I also renamed the Smallcut Powers company to KIAYEorg, and moved the site. For more info, follow me on Twitter @Sn0wCh1ld. |
